General Volunteers


This program is comprised of motivated men and women, 18 years and older, that are interested in making a difference at Dakota Zoo.


Dakota Zoo Volunteers

Are you a hands-on person with some time on your hands?  Do you like to build things, paint things, enjoy making plants grow, or have a special talent?  This may be the area for your talents!  We have a wide variety of different areas that you can help to make a difference.


Examples of Needed Areas (but not limited to)

  • Helping in the information booth.

  • Build and repair fences.

  • Build animal shelters.

  • Office projects.

  • Develop and maintain flower beds.

  • Rake.

  • Build animal enrichment gadgets.

  • Help with many different special events.

  • Just about anything and everything!


The Dakota Zoo relies heavily on the volunteer efforts of many generous people.  Volunteering is simple, fun and the hours are flexible.

*The Dakota Zoo will perform backgound checks on all volunteers.  Disclosure of a criminal record will not necessarily disqualify you from volunteering at the Zoo.  Failure to disclose such information will result in disqualification of your application or termination of your volunteer service.
