Large Mammals
Moose
The moose is the largest member of the deer family. Sometimes appearing ungainly due to their large size, they have been clocked at speeds of up to 33 mph. The population of moose in North Dakota is expanding. In captivity, moose are fed a special diet which includes wood chips and other essential ingredients. Newborn calves weigh about 30 pounds and grow to over 300 pounds at 3 months of age.
