Zoo Crew
The Dakota Zoo Crew is intended for middle and high schoolers, ages 13 to 17 years (as of June 1st), who would like to be volunteers at the Dakota Zoo. This teen-based program is a crucial part Dakota Zoo’s Volunteer Program. Zoo Crew members can enhance, develop, and prepare themselves for lifelong skills, and good citizenship within the community, all while assisting at Dakota Zoo. Zoo Crew will meet once a month every first Tuesday of the month from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. during the summer season. Volunteer work and activities will take place throughout the summer season. It is encouraged to make the most of your time and experience.
Volunteer Areas
Camp Mentor - Their purpose is to enhance visitors' understanding and appreciation of Dakota Zoo, animal residents, and conservation through various interactive events and camps.
Conservation Educator - Their purpose is to enhance visitor's understanding and appreciation of Dakota Zoo, animal residents, and conservation through on-grounds interpretation programs and conservation events
Junior Zookeeper Mentor - Their purpose is to develop an understanding and respect for the field of zookeeping, Junior Zookeepers will engage in daily animal care, education, and animal welfare alongside our zookeepers.

Guidelines:

Each member must have either an individual zoo membership or a family membership.

Each member will be required to purchase an $11.00 Zoo Crew t-shirt. The shirt will be worn for each activity/shadow keeping they participate in and monthly meetings.

Members will be required to volunteer for a minimum of 12 hours during June and July, as well as 5 hours in August.

Each member will be required to complete and present an animal education project.

Each Zoo Crew will be required to sign in and out and report to a designated Zoo staff member.

Each Zoo Crew will conduct themselves in the appropriate behavior, as they are a representative of the Dakota Zoo.

Each Zoo Crew member must have an up-to-date tetanus vaccine.
Off-Season Events:

Assist with Ed-Venture Camps.

Assist with Saturdays with Santa.

Assist with Winter Zookeeper Camp.

Assist with Easter Egg Hunt.
The Dakota Zoo relies heavily on the volunteer efforts of many generous people. Volunteering is simple, fun, and the hours are flexible.
