'Lemur' means a “night-wandering ghost” and comes from their ability to move around quietly at night “like a ghost.”  Ruffed lemurs have an elaborate system of loud alarm barks that alert group members to danger from predators. All of the group members join in.
Ruffed lemurs can’t manipulate their fingers well enough to use them for grooming, as most monkeys and apes do. To groom, they have a toothcomb which is made up of their bottom six teeth.
