Sichuan takin belong to a family called goat-antelopes and are built for survival in high elevation, mountainous habitat. They have short legs and split hooves that help them navigate difficult terrain and a thick coat keeps them insulated during cold weather. Takin are herd animals and will migrate in groups of up to 300 in search of food. They communicate with one another through roars, bellows, and coughing sounds.
